Uncover Hidden Liverpool and win £100!

Hidden Liverpool, an exciting yearlong project, launches this week with a city centre Treasure Hunt and chance to win £100!

On Wednesday 14th August the Liverpool Lord Mayor and the High Sherriff of Merseyside will be amongst guest speakers at a partner event, when the project will officially be launched and the Hidden Liverpool website will go live.

On Saturday 17th August there is opportunity for everyone to get involved with a city centre Treasure Hunt for all the family and chance to win £100. The event, open to all ages, will see participants solving a series of clues and puzzles, whilst exploring the city centre on the lookout for some of its’ hidden gem. Under 12’s will have their own challenges, with chance of winning a £20 voucher.

Hidden Liverpool is a new project from PLACED, a Liverpool based Social Enterprise, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The project invites local people to identify buildings that are important to them, from grand banking halls to the local neighbourhood pub, sharing memories of when they were in use to reveal what lies behind closed doors. An interactive website and drop in sessions offer people an opportunity to leave their own stories and read other peoples’, whilst free family and school walking tours will share the tales of past users.

The memories collected will form the starting point for considering the future of the city’s empty buildings. Public design workshops, a seminar series and an innovative schools project for year 12 and 13 students will open the doors for local people to think creatively about the role these buildings can play in Liverpool today. In addition, a photography competition, three exhibitions and family events will ensure there are opportunities for everyone to get involved in the project.

PLACED Director Jo Harrop says “We’re really looking forward to launching Hidden Liverpool with an event that everyone can get involved with. Liverpool has a fantastic built heritage and a rich history which the project will celebrate and promote, and this event will give people a great reason to go out and explore their city.”

To take part in the treasure hunt you need to register on the day at the Bluecoat, School Lane (behind Primark) between 11-2.00pm. At just £1 per adult, 50p under 18s and free for under 12s and with chance to win £100 and a £20 voucher for the under 12s, what more of an incentive do you need to get involved and start finding out more about Hidden Liverpool?

Jo says “We’re very grateful to the Heritage Lottery Fund for enabling us to deliver this project – we can’t wait to get started!”
